The problem
Before the remodel, several things in this Norwalk home had to change. The patio door sat on the wall where the new kitchen cabinets needed to go. A working fireplace took up living-room floor space. Both bathrooms still had tubs. And the windows in the primary bedroom did not meet code for emergency exits.
Plans and permits first
Work started only after the City of Norwalk approved the remodel plans. Plan approval took about six weeks. Because the remodel did not change the structure of the house, approval moved faster than it would for a structural project.
What RD Fast Construction did
- Kitchen: new cabinets along the back of the kitchen and an island in the center. The old patio door was closed off and moved to the side, keeping access to the pool and the back unit.
- Fireplace: the fireplace was taken out of service and kept as a decorative feature. That frees up space so the sofas can sit farther back in the living room.
- Lighting: all new light fixtures.
- Two bathrooms: both tubs were converted to showers, with new plumbing valves and new tile.
- Primary bedroom: the windows were replaced so they meet code for emergency exits. We also built a walk-in closet with room for dressers, with access through to the primary bathroom.
RD Fast Construction managed the demolition, the plumbing and finish work, and the city inspections along the way.
The result
The finished photos below were taken on October 22, 2026. They show bright, large-format white tile running through the main floor, recessed lighting, and a kitchen with dark navy cabinets and a large island that opens to the backyard through a sliding door. The decorative fireplace now has a stone-look tile surround. The remodeled bathroom has a glass-enclosed shower and a dark vanity.
