The job
The owner of this Woodland Hills home hired RD Fast Construction to replace the existing asphalt-shingle roof completely: everything off, down to the plywood deck, and a new shingle roof installed over it. The roof covers about 46 squares.
Permit first
Woodland Hills is part of the City of Los Angeles, so the re-roof was permitted through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). The permit was issued on October 13, 2026.
What RD Fast Construction did
- Tear-off. We removed the old shingles, underlayment, flashing, nails and fasteners, exposed the plywood deck and checked it for visible damage. All roofing debris was loaded, hauled away and disposed of, and the roof was cleaned for the next phase.
- City deck inspection. The open deck was left ready for the City's roof sheathing inspection, scheduled for October 16, before any new roofing went down.
- New roof. We installed new underlayment, starter shingles at the edges, new asphalt composition shingles and matching hip and ridge caps. New flashing went in at penetrations, edges and transitions, and every flashing point and penetration was sealed. All materials were installed to the manufacturer's requirements.
- Cleanup. Final cleanup removed installation debris, packaging and loose nails from the property.
- Paperwork for the final. For the LADBS final inspection we prepared the City's Re-Roofing Certificate, plus the owner's statement on smoke detectors that LADBS requires for a roof final.
The result
The photos below show the job at two stages. The first set shows the roof stripped to the deck. The second set shows the finished roof: dark dimensional shingles, straight ridge lines, clean hips and valleys, and new shingles worked in around the brick chimney and roof vents.
